Prayer of the Day:

On this night, Christians around the world gather to hear the proclamation of Christ’s passion, to pray for the life of the world and to meditate on the new life we receive through Jesus’ cross. This evening, through special music, the singing of hymns and the hearing of Scripture, we are invited to reflect on the meaning of the cross of Christ for our lives. As we return to God, our Lenten focus this year, we will commit all things to God’s redemption and reconciliation in Jesus’ name. Central to this service will be our bidding prayers, by which we entrust ourselves, our family and friends, communities, and nations and all of creation to God’s saving power. The bare altar and the unvested furnishings emphasize the starkness and desolation of Jesus’ death on the cross. The ancient title for this day, The Triumph of the Cross, reminds us that the church gathers to offer our thanks and praise, that by Jesus’ death, we have life in his name.
